IPL Rejuvenation to improve skin texture, clear pigmentation and developing radiant
skin glow is well known facial treatment. New turbo-charged version of these treatments and
also acne treatments have been developed.
It is called PDT short for PhotoDynamic Therapy, this treatment uses a
light sensitising solution to enhance results. The solution highlights particular imperfection
in the skin so it became more vulnerable to intense light.
The main solution compound is pro-porphyrin - a natural substance found in
human body. Pro-porphyrin is responsible for the syntesis of haemoglobin in the blood and
red cell regeneration. When activated by intense light, pro-porphyrin releases oxygen radicals
which identify cells with elevated metabolic rate.
PDT is capable to neutralize acne bacteria, exfoliates the skin to
unclog pores and shuts down oil production in the sebaceous glands. Hence treating the main cause of acne and not
only condition as many other treatments do.
PDT is also very effective to treat
rosacea where redness and flushing
disappears during the course of the treatment plan.

IPL - PDT Treatment Plans
Photodynamic therapy treatments start with removing excess dead cells on the skin's surface and enhance ALA penetration. The photosensitizing agent (ALA) is applied to the skin and allowed to set for a period of
about 15 minutes. The agent is then removed and the skin is treated
with IPL device.
A series of three to five treatments are
required at a period of two to four week intervals. The number of treatments recommended depends on the severity of acne. Some patients notice results after the first treatment.
Other Conditions to treat
- Skin laxity
- Severe Sun Spots
- Seborrheic Keratoses
- Hyperpigmentation
NOTE: Tanning is prohibited before and after PDT treatments. Direct sun exposure
must be avoided the day after treatment. High SPF sun block and sun avoidance is suggested after
all treatments.
Post Treatment Tricks
Few simple techniques aestheticians advise
- Additional treatments may be performed at periodic intervals in the future to
maintain the skin in its improved condition.
- Avoid the sun during high-intensity hours. The sun's rays are most damaging from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Reduce the time you spend outdoors during these hours
for at least 2 weeks after treatment.
- While there is no absolute contraindication, smoking is discouraged for at least a few days before and one to two weeks after your procedure. As with any procedure, smoking can slow down wound healing.
Heavy alcohol use is not advised at least a few days before PDT.
